AbstractHenri Poincaré solved a number of classical problems and started whole new subjects from scratch. In the first part we will sketch his life and discuss briefly his main achievements in mathematics and mathematical physics. The second part will contain a description of his results in dynamical systems theory, in particular the theory of nonlinear differential equations (index theory and periodic solutions), bifurcation theory and integrability problems. |
