Abstract

Various key concepts from information theory and statistical physics can be related to each other using transport inequalities. A prime example is Talagrand’s transport-entropy inequality, which bounds the Boltzmann-Shannon entropy in terms of the Wasserstein metric from optimal transport. We will discuss variations on these ideas involving the Fisher information and present an application to the Infinitesimal Model from quantitative genetics. The talk is based on joint work with Ksenia Khudiakova and Francesco Pedrotti.
