Frieze patterns, surfaces and representation theory

Abstract

Coxeter introduced the study of frieze patterns of integers in the 70s. Together with Conway, they showed that finite frieze patterns correspond to triangulations of polygons. We show how infinite frieze patterns arise and discuss their growth behaviour. We will explain how these patterns are linked with the so-called cluster categories and when we can expect linear growth.
