Torelli Theorems for K3 surfaces and cubic fourfolds

Abstract

For many interesting types of varieties the Hodge structure determines the variety. Results of this type are called Torelli theorems. The classical examples include curves and abelian varieties. After discussing the Torelli theorem for a few classes, I will outline an approach to the Global Torelli theorem for cubic hypersurfaces of dimension four that uses K3 surfaces, derived categories and matrix factorizations.
