Topological generalizations of Hochschild homology

Abstract

After reviewing the definition of Hochschild homology, I will outline how this theory can be generalized by allowing the sphere spectrum of stable homotopy theory as a ground ring. The resulting topological Hochschild homology is useful because it receives a trace map from algebraic K-theory, and I will present both computations and structural results for topological Hochschild homology and some of its refinements.
