Separable rational connectedness in positive characteristic

Abstract

Rationally connected varieties are higher dimensional analogues of rational surfaces, which share many of the properties of rational surfaces. However, in positive characteristic, one needs the notion of separable rational connectedness to avoid certain pathologies. I will report on a joint work with Jason Starr on characterising separable rational connnectedness, and if time permits, some applications for weak approximation.
