The area preserving diffeomorphism group: coadjoint orbits and representations
Singular vorticities for ideal 2D fluids are confined to coadjoint orbits of the area-preserving diffeomorphism group. Examples are point vortices and vortex lines, but also vortex dipoles and pointed vortex lines. We take a look at the corresponding coadjoint orbits, we discuss their (pre)quantization, we describe their characters in a geometric manner, and we build induced representations.
