Gauge dynamics and noncommutative convex structures

Abstract

In this talk, I will introduce a framework for convex sets where coefficients are replaced by potentially non-commuting operators. In the 1980s, Webster and Winkler significantly developed the theory; proving a categorical duality between such noncommutative convex sets and so-called operator systems. Since then, an incredibly wide foray of topics have been seen to be intimately connected with such structures (quantum information, group theory, noncommutative geometry, real algebraic geometry, approximation theory). I will discuss dynamical properties of noncommutative convex sets, as well as the implications this has on the structure of Cuntz-Pimsner C*-algebras. This talk will feature joint work with Adam Dor-On.
