Morita theory.
I will talk about a beautiful piece of mathematics developed
in the late fifties, which gives a complete answer to the following
question:
To what extent is a ring determined by its modules?
In order to make the question precise and to provide the answer, we will
use elementary category theory and representation theory, with which I
assume no familiarity. If time permits, I will hint at how the question
and its answer generalize to more exotic contexts.
