A variational approach to the geodesics problem
We present a classical problem, such as the geodesics problem, in a variational setting. This is an occasion to clearly see how Calculus of Variations works. We will look to geodesics as minimizers of some functional that describes curves along a manifold. This will lead us to the geodesics equation which has a strong connection with diferential geometry and in relativity.
