Mahler Measures
In this talk I would like to disclose what lies closest to my (mathematical) heart -
The theory of numbers! And my talk will be...about numbers!
To do this I will introduce an object called 'the Mahler measure'. This number arises as
a certain sum of roots of a polynomial. They turn out to have all kinds of surprising
relations to famous topics like elliptic curves, modular forms, L-functions and probability
theory. But most importantly, they give very interesting numbers! My goal is to share my
enthusiasm about these numbers.
