In this colloquium we will explore Γ-convergence, a fundamental tool in the study of variational systems. Informally speaking, it is a convergence for functionals that guarantees the convergence of the respective minimizers with respect to a chosen topology. We will build the definition from basic requirements, showing examples of applications, and proving the fundamental theorem along the way.
