Introduction to Bruhat-Tits theory
Bruhat-Tits theory was first developed during the 1960's and 1970's with the goal of understanding open bounded subgroups of a p-adic group G by constructing a p-adic analogue of the symmetric space for real reductive groups. The key idea is to construct a "nice" polysimplicial complex (a building) with a natural action of G and then study stabilizers of its vertices. In this talk we will outline the construction of this building and focus our attention on the case of \(SL_2\) over \(\mathbb{Q}_p\).
