What are root systems, and why should I care?
Everyone always asks "what are root systems?" or "why root systems?", but never "how are root systems?". I think that is very bad, so we should talk about them. In this talk I will introduce root systems and relate them to Lie algebras via the root space decomposition. Prerequisites: do you know what a vector space is, and what an inner product is? If so, you can follow most of the talk, yay.
