Black holes, gravitational waves and determinism
I will give a short introduction to some open problems concerning Einstein's equations of general relativity, which are a system of nonlinear PDE that describe how space and time curve in the presence or absence of energy and mass. I will highlight the celebrated black hole solutions, which feature singularities that are intimately tied to the radiative properties of gravitational waves and the fundamental question of determinism within Einstein's theory.
